This could be interesting if we can get some creative ideas going.

I agree...I really feel God is moving here...I just don't know...we are trying to put together a short film on huntington, to show to churches and College kids...we want to show a day in the life of families whom are in poverty right here in Huntington...if anyone has any ideas please pass them on.

Okay, so I've had this idea since last year that I've really wanted to do. let me know what you think:
We should go out into the surrounding community (as in door-to-door) and just ask people the thing they need the most. I'm guessing some people will need a washing machine or a car that works or something worthwhile. Anyway, so after questioning the community, we identify one or two needs that are REALLY needs and then we do whatever we can to help these people get what they need.
Another idea I have is this:
You know those great Sunday brunches we have at the DC? Well...I'm thinking that Huntington would like to donate the massive amount of leftovers to service-minded people such as you all and then we distribute that food to the needy. The way I see it, everyone wins. This looks good for HU's PR, and hungry people get food.
So yeah...those are my thoughts.

Josh, great ideas! It would be great if HU could donate all that food! But it would be even greater if JMC could partner with Open Door, an organization that delivers meals to the needy. Then JMC could have students deliver to people in the community. Just an idea.

I think that's been brought up before to the DC; I think they said something about liability issues keeping them from distributing that food.

Maybe there is a way of working around that

Mike-Steve is right. The DC apparently used to do something like that and they really wish they could but they go sued or something once.
